Mary Ahn, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, was selected to receive the Elaine Schlosser Lewis Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders. The award, given by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, offers support to outstanding junior faculty and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows at the beginning of their research careers.

David K. Cooper, MD, PhD, of the MGH Transplantation Biology Research Center, recently was awarded a Will Solimene Award of Excellence in Medical Communication by the New England Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association. He was honored for the book, Xeno – the Promise of Transplanting Animal Organs into Humans, which he co-authored.

David Nathan, MD, director of the MGH Diabetes Center and Mallinckrodt General Clinical Research Center, was presented the Outstanding Physician/Clinician in Diabetes Award for 2002 by the American Diabetes Association at their annual meeting in San Francisco in June.

Shirley H. Wray, MD, PhD, director of the MGH Neurovisual Disorders Unit, recently received the 2002 American Society/Pfizer, Inc. Headache Research Award. This award is given annually to a clinical investigator for research related to the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of migraine headaches. Wray was acknowledged for her studies on visual cortex excitability and neuromuscular transmission in familial migraine.

MGHers who are members of the Metro Boston Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) were among those honored by Northeastern University's graduating class of 2002 for their work at Ground Zero following the Sept. 11 attacks. The class of 2002 commemorated the DMAT with a plaque that will be hung in a new nursing building on the school's campus.

The New York Firefighter's Burn Center Foundation extended thanks to MGH nurses Jennifer Albert, RN; Frank Curtis, RN; Bob Droste, RN; Pam Griffin, RN; Julie Ann MacGrath, RN; Barbara McGee, RN; Dawn Moore, RN; Sally Morton, RN; and Michael Spiro, RN, for working in burn units in New York City caring for victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Each nurse received a photo of the presentation plaque and a special commemorative pin honoring those 343 members of the New York Fire Department who lost their lives.
