First come, first served

George Desko of MGH Radiology had the distinction of being the first MGH employee July 6 to park in the new Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care underground garage. Bob Burrill, technical systems supervisor, and Pierre Fidelia, Orange Lot supervisor, both of the Parking division of MGH Police, Security and Outside Services, were on hand at 4:10 am to welcome Desko and other employees displaced from the Orange Lot - which is being used temporarily for the upcoming Democratic National Convention at the Fleet Center. These employees are parking in the new garage that was opened earlier than planned to accommodate relocated MGH Orange Lot and Fleet Center garage parking.

According to MGH Police and Security, many employees have asked if they can remain in the garage once the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care building opens.
The written agreement with the city of Boston that allowed construction of the building, however, stipulates the hospital is prohibited from allowing any staff to park in the Yawkey Center garage.
