In honor of a beloved physician: Brian McGovern, MD

After the terrible tragedy that took the life of renowned MGH cardiologist Brian McGovern, MD, on April 8, many in the MGH community and beyond have expressed interest in making contributions in his honor to the McGovern family. Below is a letter sent to McGovern's colleagues, friends and patients on behalf of the MGH Cardiac Arrhythmia Service that details how contributions can be made.

June 24, 2003

Dear Friends,

The entire Massachusetts General Hospital community continues to mourn the tragic death of one of our most respected and loved cardiologists, Dr. Brian McGovern. In the weeks since the shocking and senseless events of April 8, we have heard from many of Dr. McGovern's colleagues and patients, expressing their heartfelt sympathy and deep affection for this extraordinary physician and friend who cared for people with such exceptional expertise and kindness, and who touched all our lives in so many ways.

Many of you have contacted our office inquiring about how you might do something tangible to help Dr. McGovern's children. With that in mind, we have established the McGovern Family Fund. This fund will be placed in the trusteeship of Brian's wife, Anne, to be used to help meet the financial needs of the McGovern family.

We hope that you will contribute generously toward ensuring a secure future for Brian's daughters as a tribute to the selfless devotion Brian offered to all his patients and colleagues during his more than two decades of service at MGH.

Your contribution should be made payable to: McGovern Family Fund (acct# 9420779322) and sent directly to: Fleet Bank The McGovern Family Fund 165 Cabot Street Beverly, MA 01915.

On behalf of all us who worked closely with Brian over these past 23 years, we thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Ruskin, MD
On behalf of all of the members of the MGH Cardiac Arrhythmia Service
