Physiologic
investigation series
The Clinical Research Program (CRP) and the Mallinckrodt General Clinical Research Center
will co-sponsor "Issues in Physiologic Investigation," a series of nine lectures
focusing on specific principles, tools and methodologies for investigating physiologic
questions. The sessions take place July 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29, 5 to 6 pm, in
the Bigelow Amphitheater, White Building, fourth floor. For registration, visit the CRP

Course on substance abuse
The Institute for the Support and Study of Children from Families with Alcoholism and
Substance Abuse will offer a course on alcohol abuse, sponsored by Children of Alcoholism
and Substance Abuse, Inc. (COASTA). The course will be held at the University of
Massachusetts, Boston, July 19 to 23. The course is designed for health care providers,
educators, youth workers, substance abuse professionals, community leaders and social

Treadwell Library classes
The Treadwell Library will hold an "Introduction to the Internet" class July 16
at 10 am. This class will help employees learn to search Medline. There also will be a
class July 27 at 11 am that offers a user-friendly way to search the Medline database
using Ovid. Classes will be held in the Treadwell Library conference room. To sign up for
these sessions or to request an individual or group session, call 6-8600.
Shuttle schedule changed
Shuttle service will not operate July 5 because of the Independence Day holiday. For more

Blood donations needed
Because of an increased need for blood components during holiday weekends, the MGH Blood
Donor Center would like to encourage MGHers to donate blood before and after the Fourth of
July weekend. To make an appointment, call 6-8177.
PeopleSoft upgrade
The PeopleSoft system will be unavailable from July 15 at 5 pm to July 19 at 7 pm. This
system maintenance will upgrade the hardware, network operating system and database
management system as well as bring the most recent series of PeopleSoft-delivered
corrections into the system. For more information, call the Computer Help Desk at 6-5085.
Summer outings for families of residents and fellows
Spouses and children of MGH resident physicians and fellows are invited to afternoon
gatherings July 7, 14, 21, 28 or Aug. 4, 11 and 18 at various locations. Those interested
