Celebrating 25 years of education and research

The 25th anniversary of the MGH Institute of Health Professions recently was recognized with two special events for Institute faculty, staff, alumni and MGH guests. The celebrations began with a black-tie dinner June 14 in the Institute's new building — the Catherine Filene Shouse Building — located in the Charlestown Navy Yard. The new building is named after Shouse, who was a noted philanthropist and activist.

Seven of the eight former leaders of the Institute attended the event, as well as three of the five past leaders of the MGH since the Institute began in 1977.

Despite inclement weather, more than 150 people attended an open house for the new building June 15. The event also highlighted the research of Institute faculty, staff, and alumni. G. William Miller, former Secretary of the Treasury and trustee of the Catherine Filene Shouse Foundation, joined Ann W. Caldwell, president of the Institute, Matina S. Horner, chair of the Institute's board, and Evelyn Murphy, former lieutenant governor of Massachusetts, for a formal dedication of the Shouse Building.

"May this building long be a cherished home to all those who dedicate themselves to bring knowledge and comfort to improve the quality of life for generations to come," said Miller, who also provided a personal recollection of the building's namesake.

A picnic followed the building dedication with music provided by alumnae Carla Ryder, Tara Cojerian and Scott Bressler.
