Tracy Batchelor, MD, MPH, director of MGH Neuromedical Oncology, recently received the 2002 Preuss Award in Neuro-Oncology at the 54th annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology in Denver. The award recognizes the scientific accomplishments of a young investigator in the discipline of clinical neuro-oncology.

Eugene Braunwald, MD, vice president for Partners Academic Programs, received the 14th annual Warren Alpert Foundation Scientific Prize from Harvard Medical School. The Alpert Prize was established in 1987 to reward far-reaching scientific breakthroughs. This prize was given to Braunwald for his work in improving survival and quality of life for patients suffering from myocardial infarction.

Dennis Brown, PhD, director of the MGH Membrane Biology Program, recently was appointed to the position of editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Physiology: Cell Physiology. Brown's laboratory examines protein targeting and trafficking pathways in epithelial cells.

J. Philip Kistler, MD, director of the MGH Stroke Service, recently received the C. Miller Fisher Award. The award, presented by the American Stroke Association, recognizes a physician's outstanding accomplishments in the field of neuroscience.

Anne Klibanski, MD, chief of the MGH Neuroendocrine Unit, recently received the 2002 Women in Endocrinology Mentor Award. The annual award, funded by a grant from the Women's Health Care Division of Pfizer, Inc., was created to recognize investigators whose outstanding scientific achievements are coupled with a record of support for women in academics and mentoring of women in their scientific careers.

Robert A. Levine, MD, of MGH Cardiology, has been selected as the second winner of the Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Society of Echocardiography. This highly competitive award recognizes Levine's dedication to teaching and mentoring fellows.

The Harvard Medical School (HMS) class of 2002 named Charles McCabe, MD, associate chief of the MGH Emergency Department, as best clinical educator of the year. McCabe was honored at the HMS commencement ceremony June 6.

Paula Nelson, RN, recently was selected as the recipient of the Elaine Donahue Memorial Award by the Massachusetts chapter of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrical and Neonatal Nursing.

Isaac Schiff, MD, chief of the MGH Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology Service, has been named the recipient of the 2002 Harvard Medical School (HMS) Dean's Award for the Support and Advancement of Women Faculty. This annual award distinguishes the contributions of an individual who has significantly supported recruitment, retention and promotion of women faculty at HMS and its affiliated institutions.
