In memoriam: Kenneth Herman, MD

Kenneth Herman, MD, who was co-director of the Children and the Law Program for MGH Psychiatry, died May 30 at the age of 59. Herman founded the Children and the Law Program at the Judge Baker Children's Center in 1982 and brought the program to the MGH in 1992. "Ken personally provided a full range of clinical and consultative services related to child and family legal issues," says Ron Schouten, MD, JD, director of the Law and Psychiatry Service. "He was known throughout the community as a dedicated and caring clinician and teacher, as well as a leader on child welfare matters." Herman received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the George Washington University in 1974. His dedication to child welfare issues involving child welfare agencies, the courts and the legislature led him to law school. He received his degree from Boston College Law School in 1981 and was admitted to the Massachusetts bar that same year.
