Thier receives honorary degree from Yale

Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners HealthCare System, recently received an honorary doctorate of medical sciences from Yale University. Among Thier's many accomplishments are his service as chief of Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital and as chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale Medical School.

Thier was bestowed this honor at the commencement ceremony in New Haven
May 22.

"Throughout [Thier's] career, he has focused on the advancement of medical science through innovation in policy, research, and administration," read the Yale commencement program. "Dr. Thier has used his position to continue pressing for change and improvement in national health care policy, while working tirelessly to preserve medical services and research in a cost-conscious environment."
