Cassem
steps down as chief of Psychiatry
Ned Cassem, MD, (left) will step down as chief of MGH Psychiatry after 12 years of extraordinary achievement. Since 1988, Cassem has led the department to clinical preeminence, including consistent ratings at the top of the US News & World Report list of psychiatric services. His leadership also enabled the growth of clinical research programs in child and adult psychopharmacology, neuroimaging, psychotherapy and psychiatric epidemiology. Jerry Rosenbaum, MD, associate chief of Psychiatry for Clinical Research and director of the Outpatient Psychiatry Division at the MGH, will become the department's interim chief. Cassem will remain at the MGH, focusing his energy on helping patients who are facing tragedy and teaching residents and fellows how to help these patients through illness. |
