MGH
sponsors employee career fair for technologists and allied health professionals
The field of technologists and allied health professionals is experiencing
a dramatic
shortage of qualified job applicants because of a decrease in the number
of training programs available, as well as a competitive job market. To
help address this problem, the MGH has convened a Human Resource Technologist
Task Force to focus on a comprehensive plan to enhance the applicant pool,
increase new hires and retain current staff.
Allied
health jobs include positions such as medical technologists, pharmacists,
pharmacy technicians, radiology technologists and radiation therapists.
Technologists work in areas such as cardiovascular medicine, cardiac catheterization,
histology, mammography, nuclear medicine, radiology, surgery, ultrasound
and vascular intervention.
"Technologists and allied health professionals serve an important
role in patient diagnosis and care," says Mary Acconcia of the MGH
Human Resource Technologist Task Force. "To ensure we meet patient
and provider demands, we must look at effective, long-term staffing and
retention initiatives both externally and internally."
A career fair for current MGH employees will be held June 1, from noon
to 6 pm in
the Walcott Conference Rooms, to promote these career opportunities and
to allow employees to meet with representatives of departments that employ
such personnel. In addition, admissions officers from colleges and universities
that offer degree and certificate programs in these areas will be available
to speak with employees.
Information on tuition reimbursement, the support services grant program
and scholarship opportunities will be available.
