Nursing care celebrated at the MGH

Over the past week, the MGH has celebrated the many accomplishments of the hospital’s nursing staff with a series of seminars and events focusing on this year’s Nurse Recognition Week theme — MGH Nurses: Leaders and Legends. The seminars focused on such topics as end-of-life care, alternative approaches to healing and cultural competence in patient care. Highlights of the week included a nursing research day, a reception at the Museum of Science and the announcement of the Nurse Recognition Week photo contest winners.

"The dedication to providing the best possible care to our patients and families distinguishes the nurses at the MGH from nurses anywhere else," says Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, MS, senior vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nurse. "Because of their unique contributions, we are on a sound, steady course of excellence — a course that will propel us into the new millennium as leaders in nursing and patient care."

The photo was taken by Robin Lucas, RN, who captured her colleagues at work in the operating room. Second place honors went to Adrienne Sacco Maguire, RN, of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), for a photograph of an infant with staff nurse, Beth Place, RN, also of the NICU.
