Charlestown art
exhibit
MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers presents "Unlikely Friendships,"
an art exhibit of black-and-white portraits celebrating friendships at
all ages and stages of life complemented by interviews with the subjects.
The exhibit currently is displayed in the first floor lobby at the MGH
Charlestown HealthCare Center until June 21.
Senior HealthWISE lecture
MGH Senior HealthWISE will sponsor "A Healthy Smile is Always in
Style: All About Oral Health" May 17, from 4 to 5 pm in the Walcott
Conference Rooms. Cynthia Cho, DDS, from the MGH Dental Group, will discuss
how to care for teeth and gums and common oral problems. For more information,

Career Development Series
As part of the Career Development Series, several half-hour sessions will
be devoted to information about careers for technologists and allied health
professionals. A seminar about pathology will be held May 18, from noon
to 12:30 pm, followed by a seminar about veterinarian technicians, from
12:30 to 1 pm. A respiratory therapy session will be held May 19, from
noon to 12:30 pm, followed by a nursing seminar, from 12:30 to 1 pm. All
sessions will be held in the Clinics 1 Lower Amphitheater. A technologist
and allied health internal career day will be held June 1, from noon to

June vacation club
The MGH Backup Child Care Center will sponsor a school-age vacation club,
June 21 to 25 and June 28 to July 2, from 7:30 am to 6 pm, for employees'
children from 6 to 12 years old. Reservations will be taken by phone and
in person at the Backup Child Care Center beginning May 17. The cost per
child for five days is $275 or $60 per child per day. For more information,

EAP seminar
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will offer "Parenting a
Child with Special Health Care Needs" May 27, from noon to 1 pm in
the Wellman Conference Room. Jim Perrin, MD, director of the MGH Center
for Child and Adolescent Health Policy and principal investigator of a
study for children with special health care needs, and Betsy Anderson,
director of the Partners in Information and Communication Project at Family
Voices, will provide information about accessing employer-provided benefits,

Summer jobs program
Part-time summer help is available for all MGH departments this year through
two MGH Community Benefits programs. SummerWorks is a career exploration
and internship program for graduating eighth graders from the James P.
Timilty Middle School. SummerWorks combines weekly interactive professional
development workshops with real work experience. Students spend 23 hours
per week at the hospital during the summer. The Jobs for Boston Youth
program provides SummerWorks program alumni and students from East Boston
High School with job opportunities at the MGH as well. Students spend
25 hours per week at the hospital. For more information about SummerWorks,

MIT symposium
The 2004 MIT CRC Symposium "Vascular Biology and Pregnancy: Insight
into Hypertension and Diabetes" will take place May 27, from 1:30
to 4:30 pm at MIT Building 34, room 101. Ravi Thadhani, MD, MPH, of the
MGH Department of Medicine, will be the moderator. Guest speakers include
Myles Wolf, MD, from the MGH; Ellen Wells Seely, MD, from BWH; S. Ananth
Karumanchi, MD, from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; and Robert
N. Taylor, MD, PhD, from the University of California at San Francisco.
