Senior Supper Club offers a taste of tantalizing treats

Emeril Lagasse would surely have offered his signature "bam" as Helen Doherty, RD, director of MGH Nutrition and Food Services, and Susan Barraclough, MS, RD, senior manager of Retail Operations and Production for the department, hosted a cooking demonstration for the MGH Senior Supper Club.

With the aroma of grilled Cajun salmon, rice and red bean salad and a twist on the traditional angel cake wafting through the conference room, the demonstration was the first in a series of special events for the summer program.

More than 40 seniors from the community visited the hospital's East Garden Dining Room to sample some healthy, easy-to-prepare entrees and desserts. Barraclough (left) and Doherty also offered some quick tips for healthy cooking and provided recipes for all of the tasty dishes.

The MGH Senior Supper Club, which caters to seniors over 60 living in communities close to the hospital's main campus, is co-sponsored by MGH Senior HealthWISE and MGH Nutrition and Food Services. The program offers seniors discounts and benefits, as well as the summer series of events.
