MGH Labs recognized for their behind-the-scenes work

The Department of Pathology Laboratory Services were recognized during National Medical Laboratory Week April 20 to 26 for the behind-the-scenes work they do performing tests, interpreting results and providing a complete picture of a patient's health. A series of events was held throughout the week to celebrate the department's commitment to patients. Employees of the Department of Pathology staffed information tables April 22 through 24 to educate MGHers about the services the department provides. Nancy Ridley, assistant commissioner of the Department of Public Health, presented "After 9/11: Hospital and Health System Preparedness - The Role of The Clinical Laboratory in Hospital Preparedness." Richard Evans, MD, Massachusetts chief medical examiner, gave a presentation on "Forensic Processing of Fatalities Involving Unconventional Agents (chemical, radiological, biological etc.)."

The week concluded with an Employee of the Year ceremony held April 25. In the Division of Anatomic Pathology, James Taralli was named supervisor of the year and Karen Graham employee of the year. For the Division of Laboratory Medicine, Svetal Patel was named supervisor of the year and Rychard Zak employee of the year.
