on cultural sensitivity in patient care To address issues that can arise when treating
patients of different backgrounds, caregivers at the MGH·Chelsea
HealthCare Center conducted a year-long training program to help incorporate cultural
sensitivity into patient care.
Mass. General West hosts
open house The Massachusetts General Physicians
Organization (MGPO) recently opened a new facility in Waltham to
provide patients in the western suburbs access to MGH primary and specialty care
physicians and celebrated with a day of events May 1.
Donahue named to the
National Academy of Sciences Patricia Donahoe, MD,
chief of MGH Pediatric Surgical Services and director of the Pediatric Surgical Research
Laboratories, recently was elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a
distinction that is considered one of the highest honors that can be presented to a US
scientist.
Helping make airport
travel esaier for international patients Each year patients from around the globe travel
to Boston for medical treatment. The MGH and Partners, along with other area hospitals,
now are collaborating with Logan Airport to help make travel easier,
more accommodating and hassle-free for patients traveling from abroad.
Demystifying
cancer Last month more than
150 people visited the Museum of Science for a series of lectures and
discussions — many led by MGH staff —
that provided information about cancer and its
effect on patients and their families.
Partners town meeting Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of
Partners, will discuss a variety of topics related to Partners and will answer employee
and staff questions at a Partners Town Meeting May 17, 10 to 11 am, in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.
