Ladies Visiting Committee celebrates 130-year tradition

dogwood tree jpeg (62232 bytes)The MGH Ladies Visiting Committee (LVC) celebrated 130 years of service to the MGH by planting a flowering 25-foot Korean dogwood tree on the Bulfinch Lawn May 4.

"To commemorate the many years we've been a part of the MGH, we wanted to do something that would be enjoyed by the entire hospital community," says Lucy Burr, chairman of the LVC.

Originally created in 1869 to help female patients in the wards, the LVC continues to support and devote itself to patient-related care issues and programs at the MGH. Now with a membership of 72 volunteers, the LVC has a daily presence throughout the hospital, including in the Volunteer Department, the Chaplaincy, Social Services and the MGH General Store and Flower Shop.
