Author Sue Miller to read
Sue Miller, best selling author of The Good Mother and While I Was Gone, will give a reading from her latest book, The Story of My Father, which recounts her experience as a caregiver for her father who had Alzheimer's. The reading will be held May 18, in the Walcott Conference Rooms, from 5 to 7 pm, followed by a book signing. The event is sponsored by The MGH Senior Health Family-Caregiver Support Program. CNY blood drive
MGH employees working at CNY are invited to participate in a blood drive May 19, from 8:30 am to 2 pm. The MGH Bloodmobile will be located on Thirteenth Street between Building 149 and the parking garage. CNRC accepting applications
The Clinical Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) at Harvard Medical School is now
accepting applications for new pilot/feasibility projects and renewals of currently funded one-year projects. Candidates must submit an original application and 10 copies by June 4 to the CNRC. In addition, three or four names of those who might be able to review the application knowledgeably should be included. Ethics forum
An ethics forum entitled "Gastric Bypass Surgery: Safety and Ethical Concerns" will be held May 14, from noon to 1 pm in the Sweet Conference Room on Bigelow 4, room 432. Career Development Series
As part of the Career Development Series, several half-hour sessions will be devoted to information about careers for technologists and allied health professionals. A seminar about radiation therapy will be held May 11, from noon to 12:30 pm, followed by a seminar about respiratory therapy, from 12:30 to 1 pm. An ultrasound seminar will be held May 14, from noon to 12:30 pm, followed by a radiology seminar, from 12:30 to 1 pm. All sessions will be held in the Clinics 1 Lower Amphitheater. McGovern Clinical Excellence Award
In honor of Brian McGovern, MD, an MGH cardiologist who tragically died
last year, the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO)
has established an award for physicians who demonstrate the qualities that made McGovern a beloved and respected physician. Any MGPO or MGH
employee may nominate a physician for the award. To obtain a nomination form,

Zervas lecture
The fifth annual Nicholas T. Zervas, MD, Lecture will be held May 18, at noon in the Ether Dome. David R. Clemmons, MD, chief of the Division of Endocrinology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, will present "Pituitary Dependent and Independent Actions of IGF-1." Menopause and Your Health
The MGH Women's Health Coordinating Council will host "Menopause and Your Health" May 19, from 5 to 7:30 pm at the Blum Patient and Family Learning Center. The program is designed to help women better understand the facts about menopause and current treatment options. Registration fee is $25.
