Caldwell named president of
MGH Institute of Health Professions

Ann W. Caldwell (below) has been appointed president of the MGH Institute of Health Professions and officially will be installed in the position at the Institute's commencement ceremony May 13. Caldwell came to the Institute in October 1997 as interim president after Maureen Groër, RN, PhD, left the position.

042800IHP.jpg (17721 bytes)"Ann's leadership of the Institute as interim president has been extraordinary," says Matina S. Horner, PhD, chair of the Institute's board. "She has fostered a renewed sense of mission with her forward-thinking vision for the Institute. The board's great confidence in Ann's skills as a leader and manager has been continually reinforced. Faculty, students, staff and alumni alike frequently express their admiration, respect and appreciation of her leadership."

James J. Mongan, MD, president of the MGH, has worked closely with Caldwell during the last three years to strengthen the relationship between the Institute and the hospital. "Ann has done an outstanding job at the helm of the Institute. I have enjoyed working with her," he says. "Her strong commitment to education and her wonderful leadership will serve the organization well in the challenging times ahead."

Caldwell's accomplishments as interim president include developing and implementing comprehensive clinical affiliation agreements with the MGH and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and bringing three years of balanced budgets, even while a long-standing operating subsidy from MGH was being eliminated.

"I am deeply honored to be appointed president of the Institute," Caldwell commented. "To be chosen to lead such a distinctive institution and such a caring community of faculty, staff, students and alumni is a remarkable opportunity."
