Illuminating spring with new beginnings

Spring often is thought of as a season of renewal and new beginnings. So it seems fitting that the MGH Cancer Center’s "Illuminations" art exhibit ushered in its spring display of artwork at the Northeast Proton Therapy Center (NPTC), which offers new beginnings to many cancer patients.

A special reception for the rotating art exhibit was held at the NPTC April 11 and featured the work of 18 local artists in media such as oil, watercolor, pen and ink, photography and sculpture. The pieces are chosen to reflect themes of human courage, experience and life and are displayed for the viewing pleasure and enlightenment of Cancer Center patients, families, staff and friends. Artwork also is displayed on Cox 2 and 5, Bigelow 12 and WACC 2.

As one of only two hospital-based proton therapy centers in the world, the NPTC features the most advanced technology of its kind. It delivers precisely targeted radiation therapy to patients with tumors or other problems without harming healthy tissues. The NPTC opened in November 2001.
