  • New chief of MGH Psychiatry selected
    The MGH Board of Trustees announced last week the selection of Jerrold Rosenbaum, MD, as the new chief of Psychiatry. Rosenbaum, who has practiced at the MGH for more than 25 years, has served as interim chief for the last two years, since Ned Cassem, MD, stepped down as chief in 1999.
  • Study identifies key immune system molecule
    Researchers from MassGeneral Hospital for Children have identified a molecule that is key to how immune cells called macrophages recognize the bacteria E. coli. The study, which may lead to better ways of fighting infections, was issued March 24 as an advance online publication of the journal Nature.
  • Children's Quarters at CNY offers expanded program
    Hand puppets, finger paints and plastic dinosaurs can be found throughout the classrooms, but it is the peals of laughter from children at play that bring the Children's Quarters at the MGH Institute of Health Professions to life. The new daycare center, which opened in January, now is expanding its capacity to include a new kindergarten program to begin in September.
  • Healing through the art of music
    Soothing sounds wafted through the MGH Cancer Center earlier this month as musician Lynne Davis played her harp for patients, visitors and staff as part of a pilot program that joins the healing elements of music with patient care. Cancer Center staff received an overwhelmingly positive response from patients and family members, many of whom said that the music created a more relaxed, peaceful environment.
  • Partners to improve radiology technologist recruitment
    In exchange for an educational scholarship, 25 Boston-area radiology technologists-in-training have promised to work for one to two years at a Partners HealthCare facility once they have completed their education. This agreement is the essence of the Partners HealthCare Medical Imaging Technology Scholarship program, which was formally announced by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino March 8 at a press conference at BWH.
  • Schwartz Center Caregiver Award
    The Kenneth B. Schwartz Center currently is accepting nominations for the annual Compassionate Caregiver Award, which recognizes Massachusetts caregivers who display extraordinary compassion for their patients.
