Neuroendocrinology
lecture
The first Nicholas T. Zervas, MD, Distinguished
Lectureship in Neuroendocrinology, "The Pituitary Gland and the Neuroendocrinology of
the Stress Response," will be held April 4 at noon in the Ether Dome. The keynote
speaker will be George Chrousos, MD, director of the Pediatric and Reproductive
Endocrinology branch of the National Institutes of Health. This lecture is sponsored by
the MGH Neuroendocrine Clinical
Center.
Friends
of the MGH Cancer Center DIALOGUE
The Friends of the MGH Cancer Center
will present a DIALOGUE: "Cancer — Early Detection is Best
— A Delphi Panel," April 18 in the O'Keeffe Auditorium, 5:30
to 7:30 pm. The audience will participate to determine what are the best
early warning signs of cancer. Henry Mankin, MD, former chief of MGH Orthopaedics,
will moderate a panel of physicians. Refreshments will be served. For

Friends Fighting
Breast Cancer silent auction
Friends Fighting Breast Cancer will host a silent
auction to benefit breast cancer research at the MGH, April 1 at Spinelli's, Route 1
South, Lynnfield, 6 pm to midnight. The event also includes food and dancing to the B
Street Bombers Band. Tickets cost $35. Checks and ticket requests can be mailed to Friends

MGH Cancer Center
HOPES seminars
The MGH
Cancer Center HOPES Program (Helping Our Patients/Families through Education and
Support) will present "Parenting in Challenging Times: A Drop-In Support Group for
Parents," facilitated by Paula Rauch, MD, of MGH Psychiatry, March 28, 11 am to noon.
"Exercise Before, During and After a Bone Marrow Transplant," facilitated by Kim
Halloran, PT, and Eileen Valis-Kerr, PT, of MGH Physical Therapy, will be offered March
29, noon to 1 pm. All seminars are held in the Cancer Resource Room, located on Cox 1. For

Buddhist meditation
sittings
The MGH Chaplaincy will sponsor Buddhist meditation
sittings in the chapel, located on Ellison 1. The sittings will be held one Thursday a
month, 2 to 2:30 pm. The next sitting will be April 20. As with all services in the
chapel, people may come and go during the service.
Pain Relief Champion
seminar
The MGH
Cares About Pain Relief Initiative will offer the second Pain Relief Champion seminar,
April 25 and 26 at Meltzer Auditorium, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. The seminar is a
two-day, multidisciplinary conference focused on helping clinicians develop strategies to
manage complex pain issues and build better skills to advocate for patients with pain. The
seminar is free and open to all MGH clinicians and administrators. Space is limited. For

Kenneth B. Schwartz
Rounds
All MGH care providers are invited to attend the
36th Kenneth B. Schwartz Rounds, March 31, noon to 1 pm in the Walcott Conference Room.
Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:45 am. The rounds will feature a discussion about
"When is it okay for a family to refuse treatment for a child with cancer."
Nursing and Social Work CEUs and Category 1 CME and Risk Management credits are available.

Documentary about
cancer
A screening of the HBO documentary Cancer:
Evolution to Revolution will be held March 29, 6 to 8 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium.
The evening will include an informal reception, the 30-minute screening of the documentary
preview and a discussion of the latest advances in the prevention, early detection and
treatment of breast and colorectal cancer. Guest speaker will be Barbara Smith, MD, of the
Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at the
