  • MGH Back Bay celebrates Seussentennial
    In honor of the 100th birthday of Dr. Seuss and the National Education Association's "Read Across America Day," the MGH Back Bay HealthCare Center held a celebration for all of its pediatric patients March 1 to 5.
  • Nursing award recognizes excellence in teaching
    Thanks to the vision and generosity of a local businessman, community leader and philanthropist, the first annual Norman Knight Preceptor of Distinction Award was presented Feb.12 to Jennifer Albert, RN, who is a staff nurse in the Ellison 4 Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU).
  • TODAY study seeks to identify best treatment for type 2 diabetes in youth
    Often referred to as "adult onset"diabetes, type 2 diabetes has become increasingly common in children. The MGH and Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston are among 12 medical centers and affiliates nationwide participating in a first-of-its-kind study focusing on finding the best treatment to combat this growing problem.
  • Honoring a generous life
    At a recent ceremony held at Mass General West, trustees, staff and friends of the MGH Vincent Obstetrics and Gynecology Service honored the generosity of Joy Kimball, who was a volunteer at both the Vincent Memorial Hospital and the MGH.
  • Casual day turns into pay day
    Employees at the North End Community Health Center are raising funds to help establish a new X-ray department for the center. Members of the "North End Jeans Team" have committed to paying $5 to wear jeans in the workplace on Fridays. In three months, more than $1,000 has been raised so far from these contributions. The MGH has contributed $150,000 toward this worthy cause.

    In a ceremony at Harvard Medical School (HMS) March 2, a new professorship in Radiation Oncology was established and two MGH physicians were named incumbents to radiation oncology professorships at HMS. The physicians honored are Herman Suit, MD, former chief of Radiation Oncology, Jay Loeffler, MD, current chief of Radiation Oncology, and William Shipley, MD, deputy head of clinical research for MGH Radiation Oncology.
  • Me and my mentors: Timilty research shines at annual showcase
    Scientific and medical discoveries are made frequently at the MGH by world-renowned clinicians and researchers. Recently, Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, met with scientists of a different kind — James P. Timilty Middle School seventh and eighth-grade students.

    A memorial service for Florence "Flo" Willis will be held March 23 at 11 am in the MGH
    Chapel on Ellison 1.
