In memoriam![]() Ira J. Spiro, MD, PhD, of the MGH Radiation Oncology Department, died Feb. 1 after a battle with cancer. Spiro, a resident of Newton, was 46. He leaves behind his wife, Jan, and two sons, Michael and Will. Spiro was a physician, investigator and educator, focusing his work on tumors of soft tissues and bones. He designed a seminal study for patients with soft tissue sarcomas, and was a senior member of the MGH Connective Tissue Oncology Center. He assisted in developing the Connective Tissue Oncology Society at the MGH and was associate medical director of the MGH Northeast Proton Therapy Center. Spiro also was an associate professor at Harvard Medical School. A memorial service will be held Feb. 28, 4:30 pm in the East Garden Room. All MGH employees and friends are invited to attend. |
