South African chorus brings message of hope, perseverance
MGH
employees, patients and visitors received a special Valentine's Day gift
when the Sinikithemba Choir (at left) performed an enthusiastic
blend of gospel and Zulu folk songs in the Central Lobby Feb. 14. The
South African choir, whose Zulu name means "we give hope," is
comprised of 30 HIV-infected men and women who belong to a support group
at McCord Hospital in KwaZulu Natal Province. The group was in Boston
to sing at an international viral conference, where they performed for
former President Bill Clinton. The MGH Diversity Committee and the Partners
AIDS Research Center sponsored their MGH appearance.
