Susan Briggs, MD, MPH, of MGH Surgery, recently was elected president of the Pan American Trauma Association. The organization seeks to encourage the exchange of knowledge and information among physicians, nurses and other health care personnel who take care of patients in North, Central and South America.

M. Ellen Kinnealey, RN, of Biomedical Engineering, and Nathaniel Sims, MD, of MGH Anesthesia, recently received the Janssen Elder Care Award from the National Patient Safety Foundation. Kinnealey and Sims were awarded $10,000 for their submission entitled, "Infusion Pumps with 'Drug Libraries' at the Point of Care: A Solution for Safer Drug Delivery." The National Patient Safety Foundation was created for individuals and organizations committed to improving the safety of patients.

Bruce Walker, MD, director of the Partners AIDS Research Center at the MGH, was awarded the Commitment to Children Award from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. The foundation created the award to honor outstanding individuals who have taken significant steps toward ensuring the health of children.
