Three
MGHers named "Black Achievers"
As MGHers gathered in the O'Keeffe Auditorium Jan.
16 to recognize Martin Luther King Day, three outstanding MGH employees
were recognized as Black Achievers — a program sponsored by the
YMCA. The Black Achievers program recognizes the professional achievements
of black men and women who become involved in programs that help young
people of color.
Partners HealthCare has an ongoing commitment to this program, and this
year six employees from Partners were selected as Black Achievers for
2004. In addition to the three honorees from the MGH, one achiever was
from Partners and two were from BWH. Above,

The MGH honorees were Marva L. Bodden-Carr, from MGH Police and Security
at MGH Revere; Yvonne Parr, clinical assistant for the MGH Vincent Obstetrics
and Gynecology Services; and Sandra Wright, from the MGH Radiology Center.
The Black Achievers program salutes African-American professionals with
outstanding accomplishments both in their careers and in their personal
commitment to mentoring young people. Honorees are selected from throughout
the Greater Boston community and represent a wide variety of professional
pursuits and backgrounds. To be honored as a Black Achiever, a person
must demonstrate several outstanding qualities such as a willingness to
participate in 40 hours of voluntary community service to benefit the
youth; a history of achievement in their professional field as well as
a record of progress within their organization and potential for further
advancement.
A formal awards gala was held Jan. 29 at the Copley
Marriott to recognize all honorees.
