Team MGH hits the ice for charity

Some of MGH's finest will lace up their hockey skates and take to the ice. "Team MGH" (shown at right) will face off against members of the "Black and Gold Legends" — a team of former Boston Bruins hockey players Feb. 7 at 8 pm at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.

The game is a fundraising event for the MGH United Way campaign. Money raised from ticket sales will go directly to support United Way programs.

According to David Read, chair of the MGH United Way Committee, the Bruins are enthusiastic about helping the MGH meet its campaign target. This event has garnered some top players from Bruin's history, including Jeff Dumart, Ken Hodge, John Bucyk, Billy O'Dwyer, John McKenzie, Bob Sweeney, Don Marcotte, Gary Doak, Andy Brickley and Bob Beers.

MGHers are encouraged to come and root for their colleagues. In addition to the game, there will be food and raffles, which includes a hockey stick autographed by Bruins players.

Tickets are $15 in advance and are available at the Warren Library, Monday through Friday, from 1 to 3 pm, and also at the cashier's office at CNY. Tickets also will be available at the door the night of the game for $20.

An important aspect of the United Way campaign is that a percentage of the money raised beyond the projected goal goes directly back to the hospital in the form of a donation to MGH Social Services, which helps MGH patients and their families in financial need.
