Gottlieb
selected as new president of BWH
Seasoned academic leader and hospital executive Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA (right), has been chosen to succeed Jeffrey Otten as president of Brigham and Womens Hospital (BWH). Otten last November announced his intention to step down after nearly nine years at the hospital. Gottliebs appointment is effective March 1. In addition to serving as president of BWH, Gottlieb also will assume the presidency of Brigham and Womens/ Faulkner Hospitals (BW/F) and will serve as a member of the BWH and BW/F Boards of Trustees. Gottlieb currently serves as the chairman of the Partners Psychiatry and Mental Health System and as professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, a position he has held since 1998. From 2000 to 2001, Gottlieb served as president of the Partners-affiliated North Shore Medical Center. "Garys strengths as an administrator, researcher, teacher and advocate will serve the community well," says Samuel O. Thier, MD, president and CEO of Partners. "It is clear that he has the rare ability to look beyond the present. We look forward to his leadership at the helm of BWH." |
