Urgent: Blood
needed
According to MGH Blood Donor Center staff, the blood supply has been on a steady decline since October. Here at the MGH, the center has received 483 fewer donations than during this same period last year. The difficult economy has resulted in many corporate sponsors discontinuing their support of blood drives. Added to that is a severe cold and flu season and a long period of extreme cold weather, which tends to keep regular donors away. MGH employees can help bring the hospital's blood supply to a safe level by encouraging co-workers, family and friends to come to the center to donate. To better accommodate employees' schedules, the center will open early for groups of five or more. To arrange appointments, call (617) 726-8177. |
