HappeningInterpreter Services seminar
MGH Interpreter Services will host a seminar called
"Communicating Effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Patients." The seminar
will be presented by the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Feb. 7, 10 am to
noon, Clinics Lower Amphitheater. The seminar will cover topics such as the role of the
interpreter, legal issues, case studies, communication access and similarities and
differences among deaf, oral deaf, late-deafened and hard of hearing persons. For more

HOPES seminars
The MGH HOPES
(Helping Our Patients and Families through Education and Support) program will offer
"The Male Perspective: A Drop-in Discussion for Men Undergoing
Treatment,"facilitated by Jeff Mello, LICSW, MSW, Jan. 22, noon to 1 pm.
"Parenting in Challenging Times: A Drop-in Support Group for Parents,"
facilitated by Paula Rauch, MD, a child psychiatrist, will be offered Jan. 23, 11 to noon.
"Are You Thinking about Complementary Therapies? Exploring Yoga," facilitated by
Luba Zagachin, certified yoga instructor, will be held Jan. 24, noon to 1 pm. All seminars
are held in the Cancer Resource Room on Cox 1. Seminars are free, and no registration is

POE rollout in
Gynecology Service
Provider Order Entry (POE), a computer
program used by clinicians to record patient information online, will
be implemented in the Gynecology Service beginning Jan. 29. Drop-in training
sessions have been scheduled for the Gynecology Service staff. In-house
support staff will be available to assist new users during this implementation.

Clinical Research
Program seminar
The Clinical Research Program will present
"Conducting Clinical Research Studies" for clinical research coordinators with
less than six months experience, Feb. 7, 8:30 am to 5 pm, in the Wellman Conference Room.
The program will be presented by Lorraine Ellis, MS, MBA, president, Research Dynamics,
Inc. This program includes instruction in the site's role in the drug development process,
the roles and responsibilities of research staff, good clinical practice, study conduct
and audits. The seminar does not address National Institutes of Health studies. This
course awards 8.4 CEUs for registered nurses. Enrollment is limited, and registration is
