Unwrapping
the past A special time capsule, which has been safeguarded in the
MGH archives for 48 years, will soon be opened. A book, which is wrapped in brown paper
and sealed with wax, displays the message "Probable future patterns of medical
practice at the MGH ... Do not open until 2000 AD." It will be opened at the General
Executive Committee (GEC) meeting, Jan. 12. Edward Churchill, MD, chief of Surgery at the
MGH from 1931 to 1962, compiled the book in 1952 and sealed it in 1962. The Jan. 21 issue
of Hotline will include details about what is found in this intriguing artifact.
