• Food, fun and friends: MGHers enjoy annual summer picnic
  Thousands of MGHers flocked to the Bulfinch lawn June 25 to enjoy one of the hospital community's most highly-anticipated events: the annual employee summer picnic. Hosted by Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, the celebration featured carnival games, music and catering by MGH Nutrition and Food Services.

• Acromegaly Patient Education Day
  Acromegaly is a rare disorder in which the pituitary gland produces an excessive amount of growth hormone, causing extremities to grow to an abnormally large size and potentially resulting in heart, lung and metabolic problems. On May 30, the MGH Neuroendocrine Clinical Center hosted an Acromegaly Patient Education Day.

• Adopting process improvement across the MGH
  A process can simply be described as a series of steps and decisions involved in accomplishing a goal. At the workplace, most daily administrative and operational activities involve a process — in fact, a lot of processes.

• Boston Health and Fitness Expo a success
  Attracting more than 74,000 visitors, the MGH and other Partners hospitals teamed up with Channel 7 News/CW 56 to present the second annual Boston Health and Fitness Expo June 21 and 22 at the Hynes Convention Center.

• MGH leaders learn about being "Happier"
  The keys to being "happy" was the topic of the first of a series of MGH Leadership Academy special guest lectures May 28. Harvard University lecturer Tal Ben-Shahar, PhD, author of "Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment," presented "Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness."

• MGH leadership meeting provides key updates
  The recent hand hygiene compliance results, the fiscal year '09 budget and progress on the construction of the Building for the Third Century (B3C) were featured topics at the June 19 MGH leadership meeting.

• Walking for a cure
  More than 2,900 breast cancer research supporters, including dozens of MGHers, laced up their walking shoes May 17 and 18 for the 2008 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
