Applied Biostatistics for Clinical Trials
The MGH Clinical Research Program is sponsoring a seminar series, "Applied
Biostatistics for Clinical Trials" Feb. 27, March 5, 12 and 19, from
3:30 to 5 pm in the Simches Research Center, Room 3110. Elkan Halpern,
PhD, chief statistician for the MGH Department of Radiology and director
of Statistics for the MGH Institute of Technology Assessment, will review
the statistical approach to problems commonly encountered in research.

Conversations with Caregivers eldercare
series
As part of its Conversations with Caregivers eldercare series, the MGH
Geriatric Medicine Unit will host "New Technologies to Support Caregiving
for Older People" Feb. 12, from 5:15 to 6:30 pm in the Blum Center.
Mike Cantor, MD, medical director of Dovetail Health; and Diane Mahoney,
RN, director of Gerontechnology and the Jacques Mohr Professor at the
MGH Institute of Health Professions, will be the guest speakers. For more

Senior HealthWISE events
MGH Senior HealthWISE will offer the following events: a free screening
of the film "Ocean's Thirteen" Feb. 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm
in the Haber Conference Room; and a one-hour exercise class, "Get
Warm, Stay Fit," Feb. 14, from 11 am to noon at the Clubs at Charles
River Park. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 pm. Registration is required

Vascular Center Public Forum
The MGH Vascular Center will host a Public Forum on abdominal aortic aneurysms
(AAAs) and vascular disease Feb. 21, from 6 to 8 pm at the Liberty Hotel.
Olympic hockey player Jim Craig, whose father died of an AAA, will be
the featured speaker. The event is free and open to the public. For more

Memorial service for Katie Brush, RN
A memorial service for Kathryn Ann "Katie" Brush, RN, will be
held Feb. 13, from 11 am to noon in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. A reception
will be held immediately following the service. Brush died Dec. 23 following
a brief illness. All MGH colleagues and friends are invited to attend.
Nominations for theonehundred
The MGH Cancer Center is seeking nominations for its inaugural tribute
to theonehundred, who are individuals, teams and patients
whose contributions
to compassionate care, clinical excellence, discovery and philanthropy
have helped position the MGH Cancer Center as a leader in cancer treatment,
research and support. All are encouraged to submit one or more nominations,
which must be received by Feb. 15. The nominees and those selected as
theonehundred will be honored at a dinner and recognition

Call for applications for pilot feasibility
projects at CNRC
The Harvard Clinical Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) is accepting applications
for new pilot feasibility projects as well as competing renewals of currently
funded one-year projects. Applications are intended for young investigators
established by research programs relevant to clinical research who are
without National Institutes of Health grant support; established scientists
not currently focused on nutrition but who wish to initiate studies of
direct or indirect importance to nutritional problems; and established
nutrition researchers with new projects distinctly removed from their

The application deadline is March 3.
Scientific Advisory Committee meeting
All MGHers are invited to attend the annual meeting of the Scientific
Advisory Committee (SAC) Feb. 13 beginning at 8 am in the Simches Research
Center, Room 3110. This year's theme is "Bridges Between MGH and
Industry: A 360° Look." The SAC poster session will take place
Feb. 12, from 11 am to 1:45 pm in the Simches Center, second floor. The
annual Celebration of Science at the MGH, featuring presentations by researchers
who have received major honors in the past year, will take place Feb.
12 beginning at 2 pm in the Simches Center, Room 3110. A detailed schedule

Hardware vendor fair
All MGHers are invited to attend a hardware vendor fair Feb. 14, from
7 am to 7 pm in the Founders Building, Room 130. The fair is being held
in preparation for the implementation of the Electronic Medication Administration
Process and Acute Care Documentation, which includes flow sheets, assessments
and progress notes. Vendors will be available to help MGHers test hardware
— including computing devices, bar code scanners and mobile carts.
