  • Haber named HHMI Patient-Oriented Researcher
    Daniel Haber, MD, PhD, director of the MGH Cancer Center, has been named a Patient-Oriented Researcher by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The award will support Haber's studies examining how genetic mutations that lead to the development of cancer may also make tumors susceptible to treatment with particular drugs, an approach known as targeted therapy.
  • Celebrating Ether Day
    Ether Day is an MGH tradition that has its roots in the historic date of Oct. 16, 1846, when William T.G. Morton, a Boston dentist, launched the modern era of pain-free medicine by demonstrating the use of anesthetic ether during surgery. Today, the MGH takes this October milestone as an opportunity to honor MGHers for their commitment and loyalty to the hospital.
  • Shaping exceptional service
    On Sept. 26, the MGH/MGPO Service Improvement Department hosted the latest installment in its Service Learning Series, "Making Service Really Happen," with guest speaker Liz Jazwiec, a nationally recognized speaker specializing in improving customer and employee satisfaction.
  • Survivors spread the word about ovarian cancer
    Educating MGHers about the symptoms, testing options and treatment of ovarian cancer was the goal of a Sept. 27 information table sponsored by OCEAN (Ovarian Cancer Education Awareness Network) at the MGH Cancer Center.
  • MINDSCAPES art gala supports MGH Psychiatry
    On Nov. 3, the department will host Mindscapes, a gala art auction, to raise support for all MGH Psychiatry programs. More than 60 pieces of art in a variety of media will be on the auction block, and approximately 500 guests are expected to attend.
  • CTAIPP launches Hazardous Drug Safety Project
    Since the mid-1900s, cancer chemotherapy drugs have been used to treat millions of patients. While these drugs are life-saving, their potential risk to hospital employees who regularly come into contact with them are unclear. It is known that adhering to safety policies and procedures and using protective equipment greatly reduces health risks.
