Grants highlight employee
contributions
For MGH employees, there is nothing more important than striving to
improve the quality of care patients and their families receive. However,
at an organization such
as the MGH, which relies on the work of tens of thousands of people
daily, individual contributions sometimes are eclipsed by the progress
of the entire institution. On Sept. 19, MGHers had the opportunity
to celebrate their colleagues at the annual Making a Difference Grant
program reception and poster display.
Sponsored by the MGH and the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization,
the program provides awards of up to $5,000 to support employee-led
pilot projects that improve service to staff, patients and families. This year, 21 projects
received funding in four categories: worklife, education, waiting
and comfort. Some of the projects piloted by grant recipients included
"The Effect of Artwork on Patient and Staff Satisfaction,"
by members of White 9 Nursing; "Improving Diabetic Education
for Inpatients," by the Diabetic Clinical Nurse Specialist Group;
and "Comfortable Waiting for Radiation Treatment," by members
of Bigelow 9 Nursing.
