This month, the American Society of Breast Disease will honor Daniel
Kopans, MD, founder of the MGH Breast Imaging Division
in the Department of Radiology, with a 2007 Pathfinder Award in Breast
Imaging. The awards recognize innovators who have combined clinical practice
and research to advance the fight against breast disease and cancer.
David J. Roberts, MD, an
MGH staff cardiologist and chief of Cardiology at North Shore Medical
Center (NSMC), has been named Clinician of the Year by the Essex South
Medical Society. The award is given to a physician who has made a significant
contribution to the care and well-being of patients and who also has earned
the respect of his or her peers. Roberts helped lead the effort to open
the NSMC Heart Center, a collaborative effort between NSMC and the MGH.
On March 27, Rudy Tanzi, PhD,
director of the MGH Genetics and Aging Research Unit, received the 2007
Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Institute Award from the Alzheimer's
Association at a gala event in Washington, D.C. Tanzi currently is leading
the Alzheimer's Genome Project, which aims to identify the full set of
Alzheimer's-associated genes by 2008.
