  • Saluting employee excellence at the annual PIE Awards
At the MGH, the month of December brings one of the hospital's favorite traditions Ð the annual Partners in Excellence (PIE) Awards ceremony. Now in its 11th year, the PIE Awards program honors employees across Partners HealthCare for their outstanding contributions to the MGH and Partners.
  • Birthday fun helps families cope with cancer
When 10-year-old Ashley Murphy celebrated her birthday with friends at a party last month, she hoped that her guests would bring many fun and exciting gifts to the festivities. Her wish list included items such as teddy bears, card games, crayons and markers, but surprisingly, these presents were not intended for the birthday girl. Instead, Ashley and her friends used the gifts to support families coping with cancer by creating Take Good Care Packs for the MGH Cancer Center.
  • Gifts from the heart
The treatment area of the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center was filled with holiday spirit as Carina Comer, a 14-year-old former patient at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children, delivered boxes overflowing with board games, trucks, dolls and other toys for the enjoyment of children receiving treatment at the center.
  • MGHers making a difference
Each year, employees from across the hospital apply for Making a Difference grants hoping to improve the patient, family and employee experience at the MGH. There was no shortage of good ideas among the 47 applicants for fiscal year 2007, who submitted requests for more than $200,000 to bring their projects to life.

  • MGHfC receives gifts from Angels Above
Young patients at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC) were treated to an MGHfC holiday tradition when Sue Horman, founder of Angels Above Charitable Trust, and her colleague Mary Beth Brunelle visited the Ellison 17 and 18 playrooms, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with their special friend from the North Pole — Santa Claus — and bundles of toys, games and treats for the young patients.
  • Holiday harmonies
The Main Corridor was the scene of much holiday cheer as volunteer musicians treated MGH patients, employees and visitors to a holiday songfest Dec. 21. The delighted crowd accompanied the musicians as they sang favorite holiday tunes. Sponsored by MGH Chaplaincy, the songfest is one of many popular holiday traditions at the MGH.
  • MGHers support HAVEN families
The Patient Care Services (PCS) Diversity Committee held its annual "Holidays Around the World" celebration Dec. 14 in the Main Corridor, which was filled with festive music and information about holiday observances held around the world. Committe members also delivered holiday gifts to families in need. One floor below in the East Garden Dining Room, gifts poured in for MGH patients and families of the HAVEN (Hospitals Helping Abuse and Violence End Now) program.
