• Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at MGH is established
  Studies show that stress can have a significant effect not only on a person's sense of well-being, but also on overall health. Increasing evidence shows that mental stress can lead to cellular stress, which in turn lowers the threshold for developing certain illnesses. Today, many physicians are addressing their patients' underlying stress to better understand and treat various clinical disorders and their symptoms.

• New playroom brightens playtime
  Pediatric patients delighted in new toys, puzzles and games as the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children (MGHfC) unveiled a new, state-of-the-art playroom Dec. 6 on Ellison 18.

• New MBTA CharlieCard and fare structure effective Jan. 1
  MGH Commuter Services is closely working with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to help ensure a smooth transition for MGH commuters before the MBTA initiates its 2007 CharlieCard and fare changes. Beginning Jan. 1, the MBTA will implement a 25 percent fare increase for most MBTA passes. To help shoulder the burden of the increase MGH Commuter Services also has raised its subsidy by approximately 25 percent.

• New MGH Sports Medicine Center opens
  On Oct. 30, the hospital and the Department of Orthopædics launched the new MGH Sports Medicine Center on the fourth floor of 175 Cambridge St. The center will provide expert medical evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of sports-related and musculoskeletal injuries for professional, amateur and recreational athletes and patients who have shoulder, knee, ankle and elbow disorders.

• Billboard campaign for Sports Medicine Center
  To mark the opening of the new MGH Sports Medicine Center, a billboard campaign will launch beginning this month to celebrate and build awareness of the new state-of-the-art sports medicine facility.

• New Racial and Ethnic Disparities Dashboard
  The MGH Committee on Racial and Ethnic Disparities Quality Subcommittee has completed its first Racial and Ethnic Disparities Dashboard, an internal quality report on key quality indicators at the MGH stratified by race and ethnicity.
