  • Patriot featured in TV ads for MGH
    On Feb. 16, 2005, New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi was home with his family when he experienced numbness in his left arm and leg and decided to lie down for a while. Little did he know that he was experiencing a mild stroke. Fortunately, Bruschi was rushed to the MGH by ambulance and eventually underwent surgery to repair a small hole in his heart, which ultimately had caused the stroke. More than a year later, Bruschi now is sharing his story of survival and recovery in television and radio ads for the MGH Vascular Center.
  • MGH salutes its dedicated volunteers
    An impressive crowd of MGHers assembled in the O'Keeffe Auditorium May 24 to pay tribute to some of the hospital community's most vital members — its volunteers — at the annual MGH Volunteer Recognition Day ceremony. More than 900 people volunteered at the hospital during 2005, providing more than 70,000 hours of service.
  • Teens learn the dangers of drunk driving
    The MGH Trauma Division recently put some young drivers to the test as they participated in a state-of-the-art, drunk-driving simulator designed to demonstrate the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. The educational event was part of the national "Save a Life Tour" held May 9 and 10 at the Northshore Mall in Peabody, Mass.
  • JCAHO Jeopardy challenges ambulatory care practices
    Question: What does JCAHO stand for? Answer: Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. MGH ambulatory care staff members have been challenged to answer such questions during the last few weeks by participating in the JCAHO Jeopardy game as a fun way to help them prepare for the upcoming, unannounced JCAHO survey.
  • Movin' on up: Ellison elevators get an extreme makeover
    The passenger elevators of the Ellison Building are one of the busiest areas of the hospital, making more than 6,000 trips daily to transport hundreds of patients, visitors and employees. As the building's original elevators, they have been showing signs of wear and tear. The MGH Buildings and Grounds Department recently embarked on a multi-phase project to upgrade these elevators, which will improve response time and make routine maintenance easier.
  • Healthy living: More MGHers graduate from Be Fit program
    The newest group of Be Fit survivors celebrated the completion of phase V of the program at a rally held May 16. Co-sponsored by The Clubs at Charles River Park and MGH Nutrition and Food Services, the program helps employees incorporate exercise and healthy foods into their daily lives.
  • POPPS Fair helps keep MGHers safe
    This year's Police and Security, Outside Services, Photography and Parking Services (POPPS) Fair was held May 25 at CNY with the theme "Protecting You in This Changing World."
