Over
the river and through the woods
It may be easy to get to grandma's house but some MGH employees, volunteers,
patients and visitors have found it difficult to make their way through
the snow and rain from the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care to the main
campus. Here are a few tips for the weary traveler:
- The best route from the Yawkey Center, with the least amount of time
spent outside, is to take the North Elevators that service the Burr
Proton Therapy Center.

- Exiting the Burr Center, take a left along the sidewalk to curb cut-outs
that are ideal for wheelchairs, gurneys, etc.
- It is not recommended to take a right and navigate through traffic
to the the main entrance. Because of the taxi stand, the ambulance ramp
and the traffic turning into the garages, this route can be unsafe.
- Instead, turn left and cross Fruit Street (toward MEEI) to the Clinics
Building;
travel under the red awning, and enter through the automatic-door entrance
at the end of the awning.
- The Clinics Building elevator is located near the entrance and can
be taken to
the ground floor or basement level for easy access into the main building
or take the stairs one flight up.
- This same route can be reversed when leaving the main campus and
going to Yawkey. Signs in the Clinics basement lead to the Clinics exit.
