In Generals George T.Y. Chen, PhD, of MGH Radiation Oncology, recently was elected to the Nominating Committee of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology. Joan B. Fitzmaurice, RN, PhD, director of the MGH Office of Quality and Patient Safety, received the 2005 Boston College Alumni Association Achievement Award for Health from the Boston College Alumni Association. Joel F. Habener, MD, of the MGH Howard Hughes Medical Institute, was named a fellow in biological sciences by the American Association for the Advancement of Science in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the understanding of the regulation and function of polypeptide hormones, particularly those produced in the pancreas. Lynne Levitsky, MD, chief of the Pediatric Endocrine Unit for MassGeneral Hospital for Children, assumed the presidency of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society (LWPES) at the seventh joint meeting of the LWPES and the European Pediatric Endocrine Society in September in Lyon, France. The LWPES is the premier professional society for pediatric endocrinologists in the United States. Joan Reede, MD, of the MGH Institute of Health Policy, was awarded the Herbert W. Nickens, MD, Award, presented by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to promoting justice in medical education and health care. Andrew L. Warshaw, MD, MGH surgeon-in-chief, has been elected president of the Society of Surgical Chairs. He also has been elected to the Council of the American Pancreatic Association. |
