Simches Center hosts employee reception

The MGH hosted a reception for employees and staff at the Richard B. Simches Research Center Nov. 15 to celebrate the opening of the facility. Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH; David F. Torchiana, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization; and Richard Bringhurst, MD, senior vice president of Medicine and Research Management, welcomed the guests to the center.

Approximately 60 percent of the building is devoted to four thematic centers — the Center for Computational and Integrative Biology, the Center for Human Genetic Research, the Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Center for Systems Biology. Brain Tumor Research, Molecular Biology, the Cancer Center, Psychiatry Clinical Research, the Cardiovascular Research Center, Renal Medicine, Pediatric Surgery and the Clinical Research Program — as well as the Plaza Cafe and a large conference center — occupy the other 40 percent of the building space.

“We are in the midst of an exciting era in biomedical research,” said Bringhurst. “The work that is going on here will surely result in revolutionary advances in our ability to treat and prevent diseases in the future.
