Art auction supports depression awareness

The first MINDSCAPES Gala Art Auction debuted Oct. 15 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place, raising nearly $120,000 for the MGH Depression Clinical and Research Program (DCRP). The concept of MINDSCAPES — promoting awareness for early identification and effective treatment of depression through art — was created by event co-chairs Stacy Sweeney and Wendy Tulman, both members of the DCRP Advisory Council. Guests at the auction bid on 40 pieces of art, which were selected by a panel of judges from more than 120 worldwide submissions. Gloria Lieberman of the Skinner auction house was the auctioneer for the night while Sara Edwards, former entertainment reporter for WHDH Channel 7 News in Boston, served as emcee.

MINDSCAPES kicked-off with a two-city exhibition held Sept. 24 to 29 at the Art Institute of New York City, and Oct. 6 to 15 at the New England Institute of Art in Brookline, Mass. It also launched the annual Roger S. Goldstein Depression Awareness Calendar, a collection of 12 works of juried art, many of which were created and donated by well-known artists whose lives have been affected by depression.
