Celebration
of women's health research grows
What began as a poster session during last year's National Women's Health
Week has expanded to include more participants and a keynote speaker.
This year's "Improving the Health of Women through Research at the
MGH" event will begin Oct. 21, with a talk by Elizabeth Ofili, MD,
MPH, associate dean of Clinical Research and chief of Cardiology at Morehouse
School of Medicine in Atlanta. Ofili will discuss "Women's Health
Research: New Discoveries and Translating the Science" from 11:30
am to 12:30 pm in the Thier Conference Room. All members of the MGH community
are welcome to attend.
" Since last year we have been continuously impressed by the work
of our researchers whose interests involve women's health, and we're delighted
to be sponsoring this weeklong recognition of their accomplishments,"
says Anne Klibanski, MD, director of the MGH Neuroendocrine Unit and chair
of the MGH Women's Health Research Committee, part of the Women's Health
Coordinating Council. Throughout the week, 34 posters outlining research
into women's health more than twice the number of last year's event
will be displayed in the White, Bigelow and Ellison corridors.
Six of the posters are being honored with awards of merit.
" MGH researchers have constantly advanced women's health research
in multiple disciplines, with discoveries in such diverse areas as osteoporosis,
breast cancer, infertility and mental health," Klibanski adds.'The
increasing multidisciplinary nature of research at the MGH will promote
and facilitate these advances in women's health."
