Director of Volunteer Services receives national excellence award

Patricia Rowell, director of MGH Volunteer, Interpreter, Information Ambassador and General Store Services, was presented with the 2005 American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services (ASDVS) Award for Excellence at the group's annual meeting Sept. 21.

The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service to the profession of health care volunteer management. Rowell, who has been a member of the ASDVS for 25 years, has demonstrated strong leadership for the profession while serving as the organization's president, traveling the globe educating others about volunteerism and various work on committees at local, regional and national levels.

"Patricia Rowell is the role model for health care volunteer management not only at her own institution and around the country, but also internationally," stated the nomination for Rowell. "From state, regional and national conferences to international presentations, as well as site visits and consultations, she is a leading authority on health care volunteer management."
