Stoeckle Center
seminar on advance directives
As a part of the Stoeckle Center primary care seminar series, the center
will be hosting a special session "Respecting Choices: Improving
the Completion of Advance Directives in Primary Care" June 24, from
7:30 to 9 am in the Walcott Conference Room. The featured speakers will
be Cornelia Cremins, MD, of the MGH Geriatric Unit, Alexandra Cist, MD,
of the Pulmonary Unit, Theresa Cantanno, RN, of Ellison 20, and Sharon
Brackett, RN, of the SICU. The discussion will include how to counsel
patients and family members about completing advance directives for their
care and how primary care practices can better manage advance directives.
The seminar will be videoconferenced to off-site practices, and free breakfast
will be made available to these locations. CME credits also will be available.

EAP training for managers and supervisors
The MGH Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will offer training courses
this fall for managers and supervisors regarding the use of the EAP as
a resource to assist with behavioral and mental health and substance abuse
concerns. The training sessions will be held Sept. 21, from 3 to 5 pm
and Nov. 3, from 1 to 3 pm in the Haber Conference Room. To register for

Making a Difference Grant reception and
poster display
The Making a Difference Grant program will host a special reception and
poster display for the 2005 grant recipients June 29, from 3 to 4:30 pm
in the Trustees Room. Applications for the 2006 grant program will be

Disparities in health care conference
The MGH will host a Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Conference
June 27, from noon to 1 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The conference
will feature the viewing of "Worlds Apart" a documentary that
captures the experiences of a group of diverse patients with chronic medical
conditions as they face the cross-cultural challenges of today's health
care environment. Speakers include Robert Phillips, a kidney transplant
recipient who was featured in the documentary; Win Williams, MD, director
of the MGH Interventional Nephrology and Transplant Unit and director
of the MGH Multicultural Affairs Office; and Angelleen Peters-Lewis, RN,
PhD(c), nurse manager for the MGH Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit.
Memorial service
A memorial service for Austin L. Vickery, Jr., MD, of MGH Pathology, will
be held June 23, at 4 pm at the Club Room at Fox Hill, 10 Longwood Dr.,
Westwood, Mass. |
