EatWISE, Eat
Smart
Eating healthy and making smart choices is hard for many people with so
many diet fads being advertised. To help older adults make the right choices,
MGH Senior HealthWISE and MGH Nutrition and Food Services teamed up to
offer a six-week nutrition education workshop "EatWISE, Eat Smart"
at the West End Public Library. Led by Lindy McDonald, a health educator
at Senior HealthWISE, and Dana Brennan, RD, LDN, of Nutrition and Food
Services, the workshops taught
older adults from surrounding communities nutrition topics such as avoiding
fats, sodium intake, eating more whole grains, healthy meal planning,
cooking techniques and effective grocery shopping.
"With all the mixed information that the media sends about dieting
and eating healthy, it can get confusing," says Brennan. "By
teaching this course, our goal was to offer straightforward information
to help make smart choices a little easier."
