Harvard credit union holds annual board member election

MGH members of the Harvard University Employee Credit Union (HUECU) are encouraged to participate in the 2005 HUECU board member election March 24 from noon to 6 pm at Harvard Law School. Transportation to and from Harvard Law School will be provided for eligible members in addition to a free lunch (see bus schedule below). Members should bring their credit union ID cards.

Hundreds of MGH and Partners employees have enjoyed the benefits of the HUECU for many years. Originally established to serve the financial needs of the employees of Harvard University and Radcliffe College, HUECU's membership now includes the employees and families of 20 hospitals and organizations affiliated with Harvard University. Once employees qualify for membership with the credit union, they have the option of being a member for life. Family members also are eligible to join.

The credit union is owned by its members and is a not-for-profit, cooperative financial institution. Members combine their savings to create a pool of funds from which other members can borrow. Unlike banks, credit unions do not have stockholders. The income earned on loans, investments and fees is returned to members in the form of higher savings rates, lower loan rates and additional products and services. Funds on deposit at a credit union are federally insured by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA), an agency of the US government. The HUECU offers a full array of financial products and services including online banking, e-statements, online bill pay service and online loan applications.

Members of the HUECU's board of directors are all volunteer, and they oversee the credit union's operations. The HUECU's branch office at the MGH is located in Clinics 134 and is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm and Thursday, from 8 am to 4 pm. The HUECU ATM locations are on Clinics 1 and at CNY Building 149.
