MGHers recognized for excellence on the job

Sandy Connor, a fitness trainer at the Clubs at Charles River Park, Elena Scarpone, assistant to Gil Daniels, MD, of the MGH Thyroid Department, and Dominic Horton and Carole Philippe, both of MGH Nutrition and Food Services, are the most recent recipients of the MGH Excellence in Action Awards. This program helps recognize employees who have gone beyond their everyday commitment to the MGH community.

The recipients were nominated through letters written by patients and nominations from colleagues and supervisors. Peter L. Slavin, MD, president of the MGH, recognized these four employees Jan. 26 for their hard work and dedication to the hospital, patients, families and visitors. Slavin visited each recipient's work area where colleagues gathered to congratulate the award recipient — some even celebrated with cake. Slavin then read the nomination letters and presented each recipient with a certificate and a pair of movie tickets. " It's not just the doctors and nurses who make this institution a special place," said Slavin. "Every employee here contributes to making the MGH a great place to work."
