Senior HealthWISE seminar
MGH Senior HealthWISE will sponsor "Heart Health: Keeping Your Finger on the Pulse" Feb. 8, from 11 am to noon in the Walcott Conference Rooms. Dorothy Noyes, NP, of the MGH Heart Disease Management Program, will be the guest speaker. This event is free of charge for seniors 60 years and older. For more information, call (617) 724-6756.

EAP offerings
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will host "Caring for Your Aging Parents" Feb. 3, from noon to 1 pm at CNY, Building 149 in the Larry Martin Conference Room. Barbara Moscowitz, LICSW, an MGH geriatric social worker, will discuss negotiating with both parents and siblings, changes in family dynamics, making difficult decisions and caring for oneself while caring for a parent.

The EAP also will offer a training course throughout the year for managers and supervisors about using the EAP as a resource to assist with behavioral health, mental health and substance abuse concerns. The first training session will be offered Feb. 1, from 9 to 11 am in the Haber Conference Room. Additional sessions will be held March 10, May 10, Sept. 21 and Nov. 3. Medical terminology courses
MGH Human Resources will offer Medical Terminology I starting March 7 and Medical Terminology II starting March 9 at 100 Charles River Plaza, Suite 200. The cost for part I is $70, and no previous background in science or biology is required. The cost for part II is $50. Registration is required by Feb. 28. Quality improvement seminar
The Patient Care Services Quality Committee will offer "The Different Faces of Quality Improvement: Creating an Environment of Quality and Safe Practice" Feb. 7, from 8 am to 4:30 pm in the O'Keeffe Auditorium. The keynote speaker will be Anita Tucker, DBA, assistant professor of Operations and Information at the Wharton School of Management at the University of Pennsylvania. Various experts on patient care and safety initiatives also will speak. Nursing contact hours will be awarded. Wear Red Day - Heart Awareness Month
In recognition of Heart Awareness Month, the MGH Heart Center, Women's Health and the Clubs at Charles River Park are encouraging all employees to wear red — the symbol for women and heart disease — Feb. 4 to show their support for increasing awareness of the issue. Employees with uniform restrictions are invited to visit an information table that day, from 10 am to 2 pm in the Main Corridor, to receive a red dress pin. Free blood pressure screenings, education materials and free one-day passes to visit the Clubs at Charles River Park Feb. 16 also will be available at the table for employees. A free three-month membership to the Clubs also will be raffled off. Throughout the month of February, heart disease facts and tips for reducing the risk of heart disease will be posted throughout the hospital.
